Company Background
Relate Technical Communications is a unique consultancy group specialising in B2B marketing communications and media relationships for the industrial, engineering and technology sectors. The company was founded in 1994, with its prime mission to address the specific requirements of these sectors and forge an entirely new breed of publicity consultancy.
Today, Relate employs a team of creative engineers who bridge the gap between highly technical engineering concepts and media relations. The company specialises in the development of targeted, tailored and technically accurate editorial for media placement and tailored publicity campaigns.

Rod Nockles
Managing Director
Rod Nockles has more than 15 years experience in strategic communication, issues management, government affairs and community engagement. He has provided strategic counsel to a range of leading national and international companies including Telstra, Australia Post, Lockheed Martin, General Electric and Exxon Mobil, and worked as a senior adviser in the Commonwealth Government. Rod commenced his career as a communication specialist in the Australian Navy and worked in the Defence Signals Directorate. He further developed his expertise in cyber safety and security working for a number of leading digital companies, and was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 2006 examining cyber safety and security global best practice.
Rod completed an Honours Degree in Economics and Politics from La Trobe University and a Masters Degree from the Australian National University.
Richard Tuft
Technology Writer
Richard holds degrees in science, journalism and marketing awarded by the University of Adelaide, SACAE and Monash University. He has worked as a technical author and marketing writer/designer for more than 20 years, gaining experience with medical, computing, telecommunications, engineering and aviation companies in Australia, England, The Netherlands and the U.S. His skill with the written word, combined with an ability to quickly understand complex technical concepts, allows Richard to produce both marketing and technical literature suitable for a variety of audiences and media types.
Deborah Andrich
Technology Writer
Deborah brings extensive writing experience producing marketing material, feature articles, website content and quality assurance documents gained over the last ten years. Her experience in telecommunications, pharmaceutical, manufacturing and food technologies gives her a well-balanced, broad perspective and understanding of many industries. Deborah holds an Honours degree in Physics from RMIT and has undertaken studies in Marketing and Professional Writing.
Christine Filippis
Technology Writer
Christine holds a PhD in Biochemistry, in addition to a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree from The University of Melbourne. She has extensive experience in technical writing and combined with her background in research and development, is well placed to understand and communicate intricate technical concepts. Christine has worked in the area of Life Sciences and has experience in communicating the concepts and technologies involved in this industry. She has a passion for technology in its various forms and with her strong analytical skills she provides valuable insight and understanding to her role as technical writer.
Nadine Cranenburgh
Technology Writer
Nadine has a Bachelor of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering from Monash University and a Masters of Environmental Engineering Management from University of Technology Sydney. She is also completing a Diploma of Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT University. Nadine has over ten years of experience as an engineer officer in the Royal Australian Navy, and has worked in journalism, the environment industry, local government and international non-government organisations. Nadine prides herself in the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to a wide audience, and specialises in technical feature articles on a range of complex topics.
Julie Pike
Media Relations Consultant
Julie is highly proficient in client/media communications and has more than 20 years experience including event coordination, media relations and administration. She overseas Relate’s day to day media liaison including article placements and media interviews. Julie also undertakes research projects, and maintains a range of media databases and provides support to writers, clients and editors.
